Here at Pledge marketing, we love beer, be it a hoppy and fruity IPA or a rich and smooth stout. So when we saw that Tiny Rebel Brewery and Otley Brewing Company were holding the second Cardiff Brewfest at the Depot with some of the best breweries in the UK we felt called to go.
Held over the bank holiday we thought to try and avoid the crowds and to allow us to have good beer geek chat with as many of the 24 breweries there as possible we would head down on Friday afternoon. This was definitely one of our brighter ideas. Spending the afternoon drinking some incredible beer and talking to beer experts about their passion is a great day out of the office. Now this isn’t a review of everything we tried that day but just a shout out to some of the amazing beers and breweries.
The Day at Cardiff Brewfest
When we first arrived at the Depot for the Cardiff Brewfest,we were awestruck and didn’t even know where to start. So we went outside pulled ourselves together and headed over to visit the Crafty Devil bar. Now if you don’t know Crafty Devil Brewing Company then you are missing out. This small brewery is based in Canton and is making some great beers. These guys produce a milk stout called Safe as Milk which blew our minds. It had such an incredible smooth coffee flavor that I wanted to add sugar to it and save it for the morning after.
Next, we moved onto see the folks from Mad Dog Brewing Co who were serving up a great range of their beers including their Ellipsoid Saison and another Coffee stout. This time, it was a cold brew coffee brewed in collaboration with Quantum Coffee Roasters from Cardiff Bay. The team from Mad Dog are based up in Penperlleni in Monmouthshire and are only small but are producing some incredible tasting and interesting beers while also pushing boundaries with beers like their granola stout which sadly is no longer being produced.
After a few more beers at the Cardiff Brewfest and conversations with the guys from left Hand Giant, Moors, Pipes and some others we got to see the guys from Tenby Brewing Company. These guys are based down in Tenby and are making beer and running their street food and craft brew venue, the SandBar in Tenby. With beers like their Barefoot Blonde and Black Flag these boys are making good beer, having fun and living on the Welsh coast; now that is beautiful business.
